Société Générale – 31 years in Serbia

Société Générale was founded on May 4, 1864 in France by a decree signed by Napoleon III. Initially the bank was founded as a stockholders organization with the mission to improve the economy, initiate growth, stimulate industrial investment and develop communications and a social spirit.

During more than 140 years of its existence, Société Générale Group has become one of the leading world banking groups. We are present in 82 countries and among 113 nationalities, with over 28 million clients served by over 150.000 employees throughout the world, inculuding 15,000 of newcomers only during 2006. Société Générale has been present in the domestic market since 1977, when the bank opened a representative office in Belgrade. On February 12, 1991, Société Générale Yugoslav Bank was established as the first bank in the country with a majority of foreign capital. From that time forward, the bank has been constantly present in the Serbian market, offering its services to corporate clients.

In 2001, the bank decided to expand its services to citizens and thus become a universal bank. During December 2001, the first four branch offices for citizens were opened in Belgrade.

From that point, Société Générale Srbija records constant growth. As of today, the bank has opened 92 branch offices in all major cities throughout Serbia.

Société Générale Srbija gained its reputation as the leading bank in the domestic market through professionalism, quality service and team spirit, based on the standards of the Société Générale Group.

long term business productivity in Serbia. During 2005, bank capital increased from 20 million euros to a total of 47 million euros. During 2006, the number of branch offices increased from 49 to 63. During the first quarter of 2006 we moved to our new headquarters in the vicinity of Belgrade Arena in the new business district in Belgrade.

2007. Societe Generale bank Srbija has marked 30 years of presence in Serbia. It was the first bank with majority of foreign capital in Serbia, present since 1977. Since November 2007, it changed its name into SOCIETE GENERALE SRBIJA.

Subscribed capital of Societe Generale bank Srbija is 160 million EUR, and 250 000 clients in Serbia are served by more than 1 100 employees in 92 branches.
